Young Couple – Body Language

 on

It seems that in last few days I have had tendency to photograph people, where the prevailing theme is not the person itself but the body language. As a casual observer I can only assume what a given scene represents, as a photographer I’d like to think that I can capture my impression of the scene so others can see it too.

Take this young couple I have photographed today. What do you think is their body language telling the viewer?

I think they are definitely in a relationship. His legs are spread and she’s standing between them. This pose seems too intimate for a non-couple. He seems relaxed, waiting for something. I wouldn’t say he’s angry or anything, his arms or legs aren’t tight or stiff and his feet are relaxed and not pressed to the ground. She doesn’t seem mad either, more relaxed also like she is waiting for something. There doesn’t seem to be anger or tension between them. Her knee is pointing in towards him which makes her closer. Their lack of eye contact implies that they aren’t having a conversation, but look like they are thinking about something. They do definitely seem like a close couple who are comfortable around each other. I’m a fan. :]

    Great picture.
Even though the body language may seem strange or a bit off, they are both reflecting each other’s body language. He has his legs around hers telling onlookers hands off while she has one leg slightly bend towards him which is obviously showing she is his alone.
    I love it xx

looks like they are waiting. I would say there’s something wrong because his arms are crossed which closes him off from her and she’s sort of crossing her arms in a closed off way. They aren’t making eye contact either. you could photo shop one or the other out of the pic and it wouldn’t seem to make a difference BUT the intimacy of her standing between his legs… the vulnerability of him allowing her to stand there and being unruffled by it… that tells me that they are so comfortable with each other, that being together is as comfy as being alone. LOL! They can be bored waiting together with no need of affectation like holding hands or cuddling. They are a couple that’s been together long enough to be really comfortable together I’d say. Caught in a moment of boredom. Great catch!

they look a bit awkward. i don’t think the girl knows what to do with her hands..

Great shot. Both are slouching, not making eye contact and have their arms crossed. Looks like something isn’t quite right there. Or maybe they are tired of waiting for another couple that was supposed to join them. Great capture!
