Lunchtime Scene

 on

There is something surreal in this scene. A popular Sydney eatery during lunchtime with patrons enjoying their meal. Just meters away a homeless person laying on the pavement in a really disturbing, face down position. I have asked a city ranger to help the man. He said he will call for assistance but it is pointless as the homeless leave the shelter and are back in the streets few minutes later often affected by either drugs or alcohol.

How can anyone eat while a body is lying on the floor?
    So sad…

Disturbing is right. Wow. How can people sit there and eat totally ignoring someone in need only a few meters away? The face down position is also a sign that the person isn’t just homeless, but is in need of medical assistance. Wonderful capture … and it really makes you think both about the homeless/sick person and a civilization that makes it ok for people to casually ignore the person in need.

    Well done.
