A musician gives a street performance to captive audience at Pitt Street Mall

A blues musician has turned the Pitt Street Mall into his private concert hall. Street performers enjoy various luck with the Sydney crowd, this man had the audience captivated for his entire show. Very rhythmic melodies and frequent harmonica solos obviously were to the taste of the lunch time crowd.

Initially I intended to photograph the musician as he plays his harmonica, but the very strong sun in his face would make it impossible to make a sensible performance portrait. Instead, I have chosen to photograph the audience from behind the street performer as they were situated in a very nice light reflecting from the construction boards all around them. The light is so good that this black and white street photograph looks as if it was captured in a large studio.

Two Asian girls enjoy ice cream on a nice Sydney winter day

Today was a beautiful, warm winter day in Sydney. Many people took the opportunity to enjoy the weather and went to the parks or to the our door eateries to enjoy their lunch. These two giggling Asian girls had an ice cream with a very healthy dose of laughter as they were walking down Pitt Street.

For me, as a street photographer, this nice sunny day presented the challenge of extreme light contrast. As you can see from the girls covering their eyes from the sun the light was very intense.
