The iconic Neogothic Cathedral in Christchurch has partially collapsed, as did numerous other buildings around CBD. The cathedral’s spire, which stood 63 meters above Cathedral Square has been reduced to rubble.
Christchurch Cathedral collapsed during an earth quake
Authorities are reporting many causalities and deaths. The earth quake reportedly has been rated at 6.3 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was only 10km southwest from the city center. The aftershocks were still being felt for an hour after the quake.
I have written previously that Christchurch is one om my favourite cities in the world thus it is very hard to watch the news and see the damage inflicted by nature on this beautiful place. The news are reporting trapped people screaming from within collapsed buildings. Horrible news.
