We were not disappointed. Out of the 11 dives, we saw turtles on 4 occasions. They were mostly young green turtles. However, on our second night dive we came across an ancient, over 100-years old specimen. It was huge, gentle, and majestic. It may not be immediately apparent but turtles are subject to close scientific scrutiny as their well-being, numbers, reproduction, and survival rates are very indicative of the reef’s health. Recent scientific findings flagging an alarming decline in turtle hatchlings are really worrying.
