Juggling high up in the air.

 on

This street performer has kept his audience captive for a very long time. He was juggling a knife, an apple and a flaming torch underneath the Sydney Circular Quay bridge. The bicycle he stood on was placed on a 4m steel poll. He engaged many members of the audience in his act: few men to stabilise the poll and some girls to assist with the juggling objects. It was quite spectacular and deservingly the audience rewarded him accordingly with generous donations when the act was over.

Varekai – Cirque du Soleil

 on

Varekai is the Cirque du Soleil touring production. The title word means “wherever” in Romany, the language of nomadic gypsies. The show pays tribute to these wanderers and to the art of circus tradition. However, Cirque du Soleil takes the circus to a new level of entertainment. The show is not collection of numbers but a continual, complex and wonderfully presented story. The costumes, lights, choreography and music that make the Verekai show are truly amazing.

Skill complemented by music and wonderful colours

The performers are passionate about their craft. At times they will fail an attempt at a move raising the awareness of how difficult the circus acts are. The performers re-try the failed move immediately receiving ovations from the appreciative spectators. There are no nets for the aerial acrobats, who fly high and far trusting their team members will catch them in the right spot and the right time. One has to appreciate the skill level of all the participants: the acrobats, tumblers, contortionists, aerialists, twirlers and a juggler. All of them are performing their acts with grace and an apparent ease.

Rubber woman – twisting her body into unthinkable poses.
There is a interwoven theme of Icarus in the show – a winged man who could not overcome gravity. There is only a glimpse of the actual legend there and a much stronger story of gravity defying artists takes precedence.

How many clowns does it take to screw in a light bulb?
I strongly recommend Cirque du Soleil’s Varekai to everyone. It’s pure entertainment magic.

Varekai is spectacular.
