Karekare beach must be one of the most memorable places on Earth. It is located in the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park, and only an hour west of Auckland. Its black beaches are simply spectacular.
Here is a photograph of a very common coastal bird:White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae). They are mostly light blue-grey in colour, and they have a characteristic white face. Usually they are very timid and fly away when approached.
