This photograph of a man fixing shoelaces is one of these awkward moments in life. The man has noticed me taking the photograph and for a short moment he wasn’t sure what to do, resulting in this strange, suspended animation pose. I have emphasised the situation by placing the “negative space” behind him, rather than in front of him. This makes the composition as awkward as his stance. Framing can be a very powerful tool when creating a photograph. Inclusion of non key elements and their placement has a great influence on how we perceive the visual impact of the photograph.
